In him, we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.
Recently, I talked with someone whose whole idea of life was how to find “me time.” Now, don’t get me wrong. As a mother of three kids, I completely understand the value of rest, relaxation and “me time.” But this person truly thought finding time for herself was what life should be about.
As followers of Jesus, we aren’t to be so concerned with finding time for us. We are instead to pursue what Jesus has for us to do. We won’t all be Billy Graham or Stephen Curtis Chapman and we shouldn’t try to be.
God has work for each of us every day. If you think of all the people who need to hear that Jesus loves them, you’ll realize how much work there is for us.
The verse above says we were chosen to do His will. Therefore, never underestimate the power of one committed person. When we commit ourselves to Jesus and do His work, heaven applauds.
Dear Lord, thank you that you have given us a focus outside of ourselves—You. Thank you for trusting us to do this work for You. Help us to know how to structure our lives so we can get rest and yet still do the work You have for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
